OCW Milestone Celebration
“Unlocking Knowledge, Empowering Minds” is the motto of MIT OpenCourseWare. The free publication of course materials
at MIT reached a milestone in November 2007: The complete publication of virtually the entire MIT curriculum, more than 1,800 courses in total. To mark the occasion, OCW held a Milestone Celebration event November 28th on the MIT campus, attended by more than 300 representatives of the MIT community and leaders of open education projects world wide. The celebration was hosted by MIT president Susan Hockfield, and included a keynote address by Thomas Friedman, columnist for The New York Times. The event also included a panel discussion on the future of education and OpenCourseWare, as well as an announcement of a new MIT OpenCourseWare initiative, Highlights for High School.
You can see the video recording of the event, which is now available on the Web: OCW Milestone Celebration

Hi,
I just wanted to say that I love your site. It nicely gathers all the interesting lectures from some ridiculously famous institutions. I’m really happy that you have it up and running.
Thanks!
I recently came across a new site (it is still in beta so there are some kinks they need to resolve) called http://www.StudentsKnow.com. The thinking behind it is similar to OpenCourse in that it is all about sharing knowledge for free. However the twist here is that students and tutors are the ones sharing the knowledge they have assimilated during their studies by posting videos and podcasts to the site. And the coolest part (well I guess that depends who you are talking to) is that the site has come up with a revenue model that shares earnings with the content publisher and anyone who shares the content [see http://www.studentsknow.com/help#get_paid to get the logistics of it all]. Kind of cool how they bring together learning and earning money into one site that hopes to be the “first and largest interactive peer-2-peer social network that extends beyond a class, school or geography.” [From the About page at http://www.studentsknow.com/about. I will be watching to see how the student community accepts and utilizes this new website, should be interesting.
